Sneak Peek at My New Book

Whether looking for an apartment or small house in Columbus, Bakersfield, New Orleans, Chicago, New York City, or Paris, everyone faces the same questions: Where do I look? What do I look for? How can I fit everything into my new place? Small living spaces have been around since before Roman times. When I started apartment hunting in New York City, it seemed that some had not been renovated, since.

From California to New York City, I have lived in one-bedroom houses, garage apartments, rooms and studio apartments. Along the way, I have found secrets, created systems and experimented with everything from working at home to hosting a 15-person dinner in a 1-bedroom apartment.   Now, I am revealing all my secrets and systems, placing them into this book (divided into four parts with their own chapters) you can use, review and keep in your “virtual” library.

PARTS I through IV take you from the point of scanning your first real estate listings, to final finishes on your own, cozy, comfortable space. PART I takes you through the initial stages of looking for an apartment or small house up to signing the lease. With PART II, you can start cooking and eating, even though you may be looking at a pile of boxes. PART III guides you through designing your space and finding the furnishings you want to live your own lifestyle, and discovering colors that can greatly enhance your wellness, happiness and joy. PART IV answers the compelling question: Where do I put the stuff I love? Secrets, tips and innovative design techniques are guides that I have developed over years. Finally, there is the Chapter of Checklists for PARTS I through IV. Designed to use when foraging for tools, products, information and inspiration, these checklists synthesize every important component and tip in the chapters, for easy reference.

With this book, a little preparation and some fearless attitude, you will become an expert in finding a small space you can afford and making it into a space you love. You will learn skills and innovative thinking that will carry you through life, into office spaces, larger apartments and, eventually, houses. Yet, you will have the knowledge to always be happy in a small space, if you choose it.

The goal is happiness—creating a happy life in a small space. There has never been a better time to find appliances, furniture, storage and organization tools that will help you with a small space. Once you create it, you will find that “small” never comes to mind–“cozy and comfortable” always will.
